MINDING  YOUR  HEALTH  IS  A  PRIORITY

HEALTH Is WEALTH;
Protecting your health may decrease your healthcare expenses.
The right insurance coverage helps you to protect your health and your other assets.

Have You...

 Received A New Health Diagnosis?

Some changes in your health may qualify you to enroll in special Medicare Advantage plans, called, "Chronic Special Needs Plans" or CSNPs.  CSNPs are specifically designed for enrollees with certain chronic illness(es), such as Diabetes or Heart Disease.  If you qualify for a CSNP, you may receive additional services and benefits.  CSNPs also implement specialized care plans, to increase coordination between your healthcare providers.  Your Primary Care Provider will be involved in determining if you qualify to enroll in a CSNP.

Recently moved?

If so, does your current healthcare plan cover you in your new location?
A move may qualify you for a Special Enrollment Period (SEP).  An SEP allows you to leave your current healthcare plan, and to enroll in a plan that covers you in your new location.  It is important to verify that your existing plan still covers you in your new location.  Otherwise, you may experience a lapse in your healthcare coverage.  If you have recently moved, Contact Us  to review your Medicare health plan coverage options.

PERSONALLY UNIQUE DATES THAT ARE IMPORTANT FOR YOU TO UNDERSTAND

I.  Your Medicare
Initial Enrollment Period (IEP)

Your IEP = the 7 month period
surrounding your 65th birthdate.  During this period, you may enroll in Medicare Part A.  You may also enroll in Medicare Part B.  Some people who have creditable  coverage* through an employer may choose to delay enrolling in Part B without penalty.  Once you enroll in Medicare Part B, this enrollment triggers a special period, where you may choose a Medicare Supplement or a Medicare Advantage plan.

If you have a disability, End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) or Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (a.k.a. ALS or Lou Gehrig's Disease),  you may qualify for Medicare before turning 65.  When you later turn 65, you will still qualify for a special enrollment period. This special period allows you to make changes to your Medicare healthcare coverage, if you desire.

II.  Your Medicare Supplement (a.k.a. Medigap)
Guarantee Issue (GI) Period

Your Medigap GI Period = the special 6 month period that starts once you  are enrolled in Medicare Part B for the FIRST TIME.  This Guarantee Issue period permits you to purchase a Medigap policy without medical underwriting.

You can delay your Medigap GI Period by postponing your Medicare Part B enrollment until a later date. To avoid any penalties or gaps in coverage, it is important to understand  the rules surrounding a delay of Part B enrollment.  We can help you.

III. YOUR Medicare Advantage
Initial Coverage Election Period (ICEP)

Your Medicare Advantage ICEP surrounds the period when you are FIRST becoming eligible for Medicare.  Your ICEP permits you to enroll in a Medicare Advantage plan, if you wish.  Your ICEP begins 3 months BEFORE you are enrolled in Medicare Parts A & B.  Delaying Medicare Part B enrollment allows you to delay your ICEP, until you leave other creditable coverage* (such as coverage through your employer).  A Medicare Advantage Plan incorporates Medicare Parts A & B, along with drug coverage (a.k.a. Medicare Part D).

You may choose to enroll in Original Medicare Parts A and/or B, and NOT enroll in a Medicare Advantage Plan at this time.  To avoid penalty for not having creditable drug coverage*, you will then need to choose a drug plan, a.k.a. Medicare Part D.  If you later decide that you wish to enroll in a Medicare Advantage Plan, you may do so during the Annual Medicare Open Enrollment Period (MA OEP).  MA OEP runs each year, from October 15 through December 7.

*

CREDITABLE COVERAGE =  Coverage that will pay at least as much as the standard Medicare Part B  coverage.

*

CREDITABLE DRUG COVERAGE = Coverage that will pay at least as much as Medicare Part D prescription drug coverage.

Insured State of Mind is here  to help you to understand your enrollment options.
